Holistic, Natural Healing
About the Arvigo techniques of Maya abdominal therapy®
For fertility enhancement, pregnancy & postpartum.
Based on over thirty years of training and experience in massage, naprapathy, herbology, and spiritual healing, Dr. Rosita Arvigo developed these techniques, which now bear her name. This modality incorporates a holistic approach to health care, which includes massage, anatomy and physiology, herbology, nutrition, and emotional and spiritual healing. Dr. Arvigo believes that with any natural healing technique, these areas must be simultaneously addressed to promote optimal health.
Dr. Arvigo learned these techniques from her mentor, Don Elijio Panti, the great Maya Shaman of Belize, Central America with whom she apprenticed for ten years. Don Elijio believed that a woman’s center is her uterus. “If a woman’s uterus is out of balance, so is she,” he would say. Don Elijio passed away in 1996 at the age of 103. Rosita also studied with Hortence Robinson, a traditional midwife and herbalist of Belize who began delivering babies when she was only 13.
Normally the uterus leans slightly over the bladder in the center of the pelvis, about one and a half inches above the pubic bone. It is held in this position by muscles, the vaginal wall and ligaments that attach it to the back, front, and sides of the pelvis. Uterine ligaments are made to stretch to accommodate a growing fetus inside and to move freely when the bladder or bowel is full. The ligaments and muscles can weaken and loosen, causing the uterus to fall downward, forward, backward or to either side.
A uterus in any of these positions is called tilted or prolapsed. Modern medicine has little or nothing to offer women with this problem. Options may include using the birth control pill, muscle relaxants, or surgery and women are generally told, “your uterus is tipped, but that is normal and don’t worry about it.” Yet women have a laundry list of physical and emotional symptoms that can be addressed and prevented with these simple, noninvasive massage techniques.
When reproductive organs shift, they can constrict normal flow of blood and lymph, and disrupt nerve connections. Just a few extra ounces sitting on blood and lymph vessels can cause havoc throughout the different systems in the body. By shifting the uterus back into place, homeostasis, or the natural balance of the body, is restored in the pelvic area and the surrounding organs. Toxins are flushed and nutrients that help to tone tissue and balance hormones are restored to normal order. This is essential for healthy pregnancy, labor, and delivery.
Old adhesions from invasive treatments to the pelvic and abdominal area, including fibroid tumors, endometriosis, and cesarean delivery are diminished when addressed by uterine massage. In addition, digestion, urinary and bladder problems can be helped.
At your initial session, you will be taught self-care massage, which adds to the therapeutic benefits of your session when you perform it at home. Pregnant moms report enhanced wellness benefits when they do their self-care massage regularly.
While living in Boston I had an Arvigo® massage prior to my first embryo transfer. While preparing for the embryo transfer for my second pregnancy, I sought out an Arvigo® practitioner here in NYC. I was fortunate to find Anne who not only provided wonderful relaxing Arvigo® massages in a calm
ARVIGO® THERAPY FOR FERTILITY ENHANCEMENT
It has been estimated that approximately thirty percent of women who have been unsuccessful in conceiving eventually conceive after a succession of Arvigo® sessions.
Treatments generally consist of massage, learning self-care massage, discussing diet and lifestyle modifications.
The first session is generally scheduled soon after menses and before ovulation.
There are two programs available.
The one-month program is intended for clients who are actively trying to conceive. The three-month program is intended for women who have the time and are willing to utilize the alternative and holistic benefits of Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® to help maximize their fertility.
ARVIGO® THERAPY FOR PREGNANCY
Arvigo® Therapy supports the physical changes experienced by women during pregnancy. As the baby and uterus grow, additional strain is put on the uterine and pelvic ligaments and pelvic floor muscles.
With regular Arvigo® massage the uterus stays well positioned, receives good blood supply, and grows strong and resilient.
Arvigo® Therapy normalizes alignment of the pelvic bones, allowing the uterus to guide itself to optimal positioning in the pelvis.
Digestion and respiration during pregnancy are also improved.
Arvigo® practitioners around the world have repeatedly found that their clients experience significantly shorter and easier labors.
Midwifery-based practices that have integrated Arvigo® Therapy into their care have reported positive differences in birth outcomes as evidenced by more efficient contractions and shorter labors.
ARVIGO® THERAPY FOR POSTPARTUM RECOVERY & HEALING
Postpartum is a time of physical and emotional adjustments. A new mother’s body undergoes physiological and structural changes as part of healing from labor and birth and to return to her pre-pregnant state.
Arvigo® Therapy during postpartum facilitates recovery.
It encourages involution to occur more quickly and efficiently. It supports the uterus and ligaments to return to an optimal position and helps bring the pelvis into balance.
Arvigo® Therapy and self-care massage may be resumed at six weeks postpartum. It especially helps heal diastasis recti, addresses pain from low back/sacral/coccyx injuries that can occur during birth, facilitates emotional healing from surgical birth and birth trauma, improves the potential for a successful VBAC, aids to reducing and resolving scar tissue that may have resulted from a caesarean birth and fosters healing from the inside out.
